The program assists families who have lost a child to senseless gun violence with funeral expenses and provides support and advocacy for those families. The Family Advocacy component of The Trayvon Martin Foundation’s mission is geared toward providing moral support to families who have lost a child under the age of 18 to senseless gun violence.
We take special care in our interactions with each family, because the needs are so delicate in nature. Depending on the situation, the Foundation has provided financial stipends to families to bury their child and access to professional counseling for the victim’s parents and siblings. One on one talks with grieving parents have proved to be both motivating and encouraging.
The voices of Sybrina and Tracy telling parents that they will live through their tragedy have inspired positive change. The parents have invited victims’ loved ones to a Circle of Prayer, which serves to reinforce the power of God is a critical component of the Family Advocacy program. Sybrina and Tracy are very vocal about their faith, which sustains them every day.
This heartfelt, unscripted, true embrace of family advocacy was born out of love. The uniqueness of the Foundation’s work is deeply appreciated especially by parents whose children have fallen victim to senseless gun violence. The mission is to give hurting families hope to empower them and to make broken families whole again.
The Foundation stands committed to being a strong support system for all families across the country, regardless of race, ethnicity or gender.
